The GP Specialty Training Administrative Support team boasts nearly 95 years combined NHS experience. The team’s experience enables them to provide an excellent level of knowledge and support to GP Registrars, GP Trainers and Hospital colleagues.
Viv Longdon - Derby GP Specialty Training Manager
Viv has worked for the NHS for over 30 years, starting in 1971 at the Derbyshire Children's Hospital which was, at that time, located in North Street Derby. This was then followed by various posts in Health Records, the ENT Clinic and finally managing Ripley Hospital prior to the start of "family life" in 1983. She continued to work part-time in health records, The Pain Management Clinic and the Ronnie Mackeith Centre until 1996 when she returned to full time working in her current post as Derby GP Training Programme Manager.
Viv thoroughly enjoys her job, particularly the interactions between primary and secondary care. The length of time that she has been doing the job alone indicates how much she enjoys coming to work. This is a record for her as she usually gets bored after three years!!!
Her role is strategic, ensuring the delivery of appropriate training opportunities for doctors to achieve their CCT and continue their medical career in general practice. To achieve this Viv works closely with three local GPs who are Training Programme Directors, and have an excellent administrative support team, commonly known as The "A" Team for obvious reasons!
Viv has a passion for horses, dogs and children, especially her young grandson who she has given up one day at work to look after him.

Andy Lindop - Programme Director
Andy trained at Sheffield where he met and married Biddy, a fellow GP. He graduated in 1981. After completing GP Training, he worked in Liverpool in an inner city two man practice for 5 years before moving to Wirksworth, a rural practice in the White Peak, where he has been for 25 years. Andy has been a Programme Director with the Derby programme for 20 years.
He has six kids so comes to work for some peace. He likes to run for the same reason. He considers himself a true generalist and old fashioned family doctor, but does have a special interest in Sports and Exercise/Musculoskeletal medicine. Andy is in charge of tea bags and healthy cynicism at the scheme office, useless at most other things, but especially emails. His passion lies very much in teaching but equally enjoys working with a really dedicated and friendly team.
